The Minds of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle Essay SOCRATES, one of those who sought to develop a more consistent and purer concept of god, but he paid the price of a pioneer in that the masses misunderstood him. He was considered as the destroyer of the gods of the Greeks. He maintained that the centrality of the real essence of man and individual is not only its acceptance of the different gods but the real understanding of one’s relationship with others in a rational manner. This implies a rational knowledge with all its capabilities within the realm of knowledge – the highest god, thus, the nature and conceptualization of god, for him, is the actual understanding of knowledge which one god. For Socrates, is something that can be reached through knowing and knowledge that the individual can possess? PLATO, the pupil of Socrates, uses the word God, but in a very confused way. Most of the time, he used the word god just a ordinary masses think of them, as beings governing different realms of the universe. In many of his works, we cannot actually distinguish how-in the process he thinks of gods in the same manner as the ordinary citizen of Greece and with his noble background (Drake, 1958), for in it, the mind of the masses, most of the time prevailed. Indeed, the popular conceptions of the gods are strewn all over these thoughts and works, but there were times that. He thought of the existence of one supreme god who is the master and ruler of the entire universe. In his book, the Timaeus, he accounts for the creation of the universe by using a demiurge, or sort of architect, who takes already-created ideas and matter and moulds the universe. In another place, we find him speaking of the creators as the source of souls. ARISTOTLE on this point is clear. He noted that there are two causes in the universe – form and matter. That, â€Å"forms are forces which realize themselves in the world of matter, just as the idea of the artist realizes itself in marble,† was central to the belief of Aristotle. The cause of motion, for him, is for him, is form; and matter moves as it is being caused by form. Thus, for Aristotle, the traces of the early Greek thinking, â€Å"that matter is a living form† was revived. Not only does form, which is within matter, move matter, but matter seeks to become or realize the form. For example, the mango tree is the form and the mango seed is the matter. When the seed grows into a mango tree, it realizes the form â€Å"mango tree† which is in it a mango seed, but unrealized. As it is growing according to Aristotle, it is striving to become a mango tree. This is its motion. Aristotle maintained that, before the mango seed, there was matter, and an idea or form â€Å"mango†. This form was in matter, and matter was striving to become a mango tree because of the presence of the form in it. We might move on tracing these series of events from the crudest matter, each step through the mango tree and beyond, and realizing that at each point there is matter striving to become form, being moved by form. Thus he asks, â€Å"Is this series continuous and forever? † his answer was â€Å"NO†. At the end. He called this an eternal â€Å"UNMOVED MOVER,† the ultimate cause of ll motion, of all becoming and being in the universe. He called the unmoved mover,† â€Å"GOD,† (Saddi, 1997). Aristotle’s god is â€Å"PURE INTELLIGENCE,† the ideal motif of all philosophers.

Erich Maria Remarque’s All Quiet on the Western Front is a novel that takes you through the life of a soldier in World War I. Remarque is accurately able to portray the episodes soldiers go through. All Quiet on the Western Front shows the change in attitudes of the men before and during the war. This novel is able to show the great change war has evolved to be. From lining your men up and charging in the eighteenth century, to digging and â€Å"living† in the trenches with rapid-fire machine guns, bombs, and flame-throwers being exposed in your trench a short five meters away. Remarque makes one actually feel the fun and then the tragedy of warfare. At the beginning of the novel Remarque gives you nationalist feelings through pride of Paul and the rest of the boys. However at the end of the war Remarque shows how pointless war really is. This is felt when everyone starts to die as the war progresses. Remarque accurately portrays all aspects of the war. However Remarque is best able to portray the effects the war has on the soldiers and the rest of the people and the scene of the battlefield compared to home. The war scarred the soldiers permanently, if not physically then mentally. After the war the soldiers usually never recovered from the war. Two of the most common side affects of the war were shell shock and stir crazy. When suffering from shell shock a soldier’s brain doesn’t function properly and the man is a â€Å"vegetable†. This means the man is alive but he can’t do anything because he is in a state of shock because of the war. Stir crazy is a mental illness caused by the firing of so many bullets that when no bullets are heard by the victim he goes insane. Everyone was scared to go to war when it started. Young recruits were first sent because the veterans knew they were going to come back dead. "When we run out again, although I am very excited, I suddenly think: â€Å"where’s Himmelstoss?† Quickly I jump back into the dug-out and find him with a small scratch lying in a corner pretending to be wounded.† (P 131) Even t he big men like Himmelstoss are scared to go fight. They too go through the mental illnesses like stir crazy and shell shock. â€Å"He is in a panic; he is new to it too.

He also mentions that the ungodly will not stand in the judgment and the sinners will not stand in the congregation of the righteous.He mentions that only the God know the way of the righteous. Psalm 23 is about the God is our shepherd, and describes about where the God lead us (2,3). It also describes about how the God restore the blessed man’s souls and guides him in the way of righteousness. In the fourth sentence, the blessed man describes about how people do not have fear when they walk through the valley of death and the fifth sentence describes that God has always prepare for us.The last sentence describes about how goodness and love follows us all the days of our life by God. Psalm 32 is about who is blessed (1,2) by God and describes about the result when one does not confess his sins (3,4). It also talks about the psalmist deal with his sins (5) and how the God would guide him (8). Finally, the ninth sentence mentions about what we are not to like as horse or mule (9).

Movie Review on Clash Of The Titans (1981)

We are jettisoned into the Universe of the Greek, with colorful photography and plenty of Immortals gracing our film’s screen.   With named stars such as Lawrence Olivier, Ursula Andress, Claire Bloom, Burgess Meredith, Harry Hamlin, and Judi Baker, who could not follow these beautiful people, circa 1980, dressed in draped togas wearing gold and bejeweled tiaras? This is â€Å"big production† at its best, and is educationally accurate regarding this mythological episode in history; it is well presented; however; what is with the metal computerized owl?   Why does the repulsive sea beast in the end from the sea de-caged have three arms and not four? Hamlin is an Adonis doll as he sits atop his white winged beauty of a horse, showing a healthy and well-muscled torso and abs, but someone else should have been Head Hairdresser; a bit â€Å"helmeted† yes? The camera shots were slow to change up, the angles were few, and immortals stared a lot at each their god on Mount Olympus†¦they highly regarded their King Zeus, but, with time, would they still be staring so intently at his presence?   I experienced this as a bit awkward. Where were the pillows they could recline on for long seminars and diatribes?   Perhaps our director, Desmond Davis was not able to turn writer Beverly Cross’s novel into an action production; perhaps it’s best held in books.   But the photography†¦I loved the rocks, the waves, the sunsets, the beautiful women in gorgeously designed long gowns.   I want to see more of this historical beauty. I loved the fact that the movie centered around the water, which is every bit a part of Greece as the islands.   This was right.   The movie spoke volumes about mythological studies.   The actors were genuine and polished, and remember the technology was not quite what we experience daily now.   I give the movie three out of five stars; I give the photography four; I give Pegasus five; I give you five for taking the time to watch this remake of Greek history, which is a cultural mecca for anyone studying European history. These stories, these tales were told and maintained for a reason; the ending words from Zeus are some not to forget; â€Å"What if one day other heroes like him (Perseus) with courage, imagination, and bravery become everyday entities in mortals’ world?   We wouldn‘t be needed!†Ã‚   This is asked by Hera.   Zeus, unfortunately, but accurately replies, â€Å"For the moment,   there is sufficient sloth, cowardice and mediocrity down there to last forever†¦Ã¢â‚¬  Think about that, my mortal friends.
